This article answers a FAQ (frequently asked question).

Question: Does Amanda Support my Tape Drive or Changer?

Answer: Yes.

Amanda uses standard UNIX tools to access tape drives and changers - the standard POSIX tape interface (or older APIs for older systems like Minix and IRIX) and 'mtx'. So if your tape drive works properly with 'mt', or if your tape changer works properly with 'mtx', then Amanda can use it.

The mtx project maintains a Compatibility List. It is incomplete, and no doubt the developers would appreciate your corrections.
