A file containing all of the data for a particular dump of a particular DLE. In many cases, this is a (possibly compressed or encrypted) tar file. As far as Amanda is concerned, though, it is just a very large bunch of data. Only Amanda applications know how to interpret the data in a dumpfile.

This term is sometimes used ambiguously to refer to a single file on tape (which may only contain a part of a dumpfile).
