* Always use amrecover with non-rewinding device names
* Always restore files to a temporary directory

Amrecover restores to the state of the data as of a particular date, i.e. the state of the data at the time of the dump on that date. When dump level 0 is restored and then higher dump level is restored, existing files can be modified and some files that existed in dump level 0 might be removed (the files that were deleted between dump level 0 backup and dump level 1 backup time)

  • Check amtapeidxd logs on the server (/tmp/amanda/amidxtaped.DATETIME.debug) for more information
  • If you have multiple dumps of same host/DLE on the same tape, make sure "amrecover_do_fsf" or "amrecover_check_label" is not set to "yes" in amanda.conf
