Q: Does tape spanning only work when you're using 'tar'? or does it also work with 'dump'?

A: It should work on both tar as well as dump.

Q: Is an autoloader required to use the tape spanning capability ? or Can the tape spanning capability be used by manually changing the tapes ?

A: Manual changers are O.K. Amanda will send email indicating it is waiting for the next tape. (2/6/2009)

A: Yes Amanda ejects My LTO2 and sends me an email indicating which tape to bring next (2/6/2009)

Q:

  After the Second tape is put in the tape drive, is there a command that needs to be executed to continue the backup? 
  is it automatic?
  can it sit over a long weekend without issues waiting for the next tape? (2/2/2009)

A: No command is needed. Push in the next tape Amanda indicated in the email and it picks up where it left off. A: It would appear that Amanda sends out a NAG email to change the tape every 12 minutes or so. over a long weekend this could be many emails. (2/6/2009)
