The sample mysql-zrm.conf file can be used to configure options for ZRM for MySQL. The sample configuration file is installed as /etc/mysql-zrm/mysql-zrm.conf

Configuring optimal parameters for MySQL backups is a three step process given below.

  1. Determine your environment and its backup needs. This involves identifying what databases and/or tables to be backed, if compression and encryption is needed etc. Please see the What to Backup section for more details.
  2. Look at the sample file and uncomment the lines that you want to be operational in the backup set. Copy the modified sample file to the global mysql-zrm.conf config file or the specific backup set config file. Run a few backups from the command line with varying options like full or incremental, raw or logical, compress etc. The Optimizations section of the manual provides an example of how to choose various backup parameters.
  3. Use backup reports to obtain results for various backup parameters like the size of the backup, time taken for the backup process read lock time, write lock time etc. Then finalise what parameters you should finally retain.

Backup parameters determine how the backup is done, whether compression, encryption of backups is done, backup location and backup retention policy.
